Watercolor Demo of "Leslie's Squash"

Watercolor is a whole different challenge which I enjoy. The process is opposite from oil in that you paint light to dark. With oil I paint dark to light. When my niece, Leslie, gave me this summer squash from her garden she was thinking “meal” while I was thinking “new still life”.

I started with a very simple design.

Then I focused on the cloth and apple. Once those were laid in I used the same colors to create to under-painting of the background.

Then I started laying in the bright under color of pale yellow on the squash.

I continue working the whole painting until I am finally satisfied that I am done.

Finally I sign and move on to the next project!
